The Department of Justice’s (DoJ) lawsuit seeking to block AT&T’s proposed USD 85bn acquisition of Time Warner unfolded through a dramatic sequence of events. The excitement started from the moment the deal was announced, when then presidential candidate Donald J. Trump vowed to block the transaction on the grounds that it would put the too much of the media in the hands of too few, who in turn could wield the power to tell voters what to think and do.  Deals like this one destroy democracy, Trump would explain. Throughout the campaign, Trump expressed frustration with how he was portrayed by Time Warner news channel CNN, calling it “fake news.”
