Riding the Currents: M&A in Ukraine
11 June 2020
Mergermarket is pleased to present the fifth edition of M&A in Ukraine, published in association with Aequo. This report provides invaluable insights into key trends in Ukraine’s M&A landscape and an outlook for 2020 and beyond in the face of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Key findings include:
- Reaching its highest level since 2013, the total value of reported transactions grew by 12% YOY to €1.19bn of deals recorded in 2019. Meanwhile, deal volume dropped slightly over the same period by 6% to 80 transactions.
- International investor confidence in Ukraine continues to strengthen with 41% of all deals conducted by foreign buyers, accounting for 86% of overall deal value. This was largely due to the single biggest deal of the year: the €770m acquisition of telecoms operator VF (Vodafone) Ukraine by Azerbaijan’s NEQSOL Holding.
- The technology, media, and telecoms (TMT) sector led the way in both deal volume (22%) and total reported value (36%) in 2018-19. With the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic, the use of online services is likely to increase further, setting this industry up to perform better than most in the coming year.
