Long-rumoured break-up candidate Smiths Group [LON:SMIN] recently confirmed it is in talks to combine its medical division with US competitor ICU Medical [NASDAQ:ICUI]. Whilst the structure of any deal remains unclear, the news raises the question – could this be the catalyst that leads to a break-up of the group?

Meanwhile, at Uniper’s [ETR:UN01] AGM, a key vote has been delayed on an audit into the role of management and whether they tried to block a stake sale to Fortum [HEL:FORTUM]. E.ON [ETR:EOAN] – which is selling the 47% stake to Fortum – pushed for the delay to the vote, proposed by fund backed by activist Elliott. We discuss what it means for the deal.
